Danny McBride he is known for his comedic roles in films such as Express pineapple AND This is endand similar TV series Eastbound and down AND The precious stones of the righteous. One of his most successful films was the 2008 comedy, tropical thunderby the director Ben Stiller.
While the film has garnered interest over the years for the use of blackface by the character Kirk Lazarus, played by Robert Downey Junior.Stiller and his co-stars in the film have repeatedly defended it, reminding viewers that it was meant to be a swipe at character, and that we should be in on the joke.
Someone must have gotten it, as Downey was nominated for an unprecedented Oscar that year for the comedic role.
McBride can attest to the level of commitment his co-star put into the part, as he got a behind-the-scenes peek at Downey’s method acting. In a recent interview with GQ (via CinemaBlend), McBride explained a moment when she was on set tropical thunderand inadvertently eavesdropped on his co-star.
He said: “I remember having a little scissors while I was sitting on that tower. Because if they had a cell phone, some direction or something for me so I could know what’s going on. And I guess they left Downey’s microphone on during one of the takes.
McBride continued: “And so I sat there and thought ‘Oh shit, I can hear what he’s saying.’ And he talks to people, and he was in character the whole time. And then I even saw him go back to his trailer and I saw him from over there. And he was talking to himself. ‘I’m going to drain the snake, I’m going to drain the snake. .” He made up a song about how he was going to piss in character.
This is commitment. RDJ always puts everything into the characters she plays, and it’s about time she won an Academy Award, which she did this year for her supporting role in Oppenheimer.
