Here’s a fascinating video interview from 1975 in which Frank B. Wood talks about his experience witnessing Orville and Wilbur Wright on their first flight attempt at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina on December 14, 1903.
In the video, Wood shared his reaction to seeing the first plane, what happened, and why the Wright brothers were unsuccessful on their first try. This kind of thing is really amazing!
This is Frank B. Wood (1877 – 1975), who witnessed the Wright brothers’ very first attempt at powered airplane flight. It happened on December 14, 1903. According to the official log, “The plane (called the ‘Wright Flyer’ at the time) left the track, but Wilbur stopped too abruptly, stalled, and descended after traveling 105 feet (32 m) in 3 and a half seconds, suffering little damage.
