Austin Butler will star in Darren Aronofsky’s crime thriller CAUGHT STEALING

Austin Butler (Elvis, the masters of the air) will be the protagonist of the direction Darren Aronofskyis the next film project, a crime thriller titled Caught stealing. The film is based on the book by Charlie Houstonwho will also write the screenplay.

The story follows Hank Thompson, “a burned-out former baseball player, as he unwittingly plunges into a wild fight for survival in the criminal underworld of 1990s Central New York.”

Aronofsky said in a statement: “I’m thrilled to team up with my old friends at Sony Pictures to bring Charlie’s adrenaline-filled rollercoaster ride to life. I can’t wait to start working with Austin and my New York filmmaking family.”

Sanford Panitch, president of the Motion Picture Group at Sony Pictures, added: “Darren is one of the world’s most brilliant audiovisual storytellers, and adapting these wonderful Charlie Huston books to star Austin was too exciting an opportunity. so as not to be part of it.” .”

This sounds like a great project for both Butler and Aronofsky. Here is a full description of the book:

It’s three thousand miles from the green fields of glory, where Henry “call me Hank” Thompson once played baseball in California, to the Lower East Side of Manhattan, where the tenements are old, the rents are high and the drunks are dirty. But now Hank is here, working as a bartender and taking care of a cat named Bud who will surely get him killed.

It begins when Hank’s neighbor Russ has to leave town in a hurry and deliver Bud to a courier. But it’s only when two Russians in tracksuits drag Hank over the counter of the place where he works and beat him bloody that he begins to get an idea: someone wants something from him. He simply doesn’t know what he is, where he is, nor how to make him understand that he doesn’t have it.

In the space of twenty-four hours Hank runs across rooftops, swings his old aluminum bat for just the right spot on a boy’s head, plays hide and seek with the New York police, rides the subway with a dead man at his side, and it matters a lot of things. cash on a concrete floor.

All because of two cowboys, two Russian mobsters, and some of the strangest henchmen ever gathered in one place. All because of Bud. All because once upon a time, in another life, in another world, all Hank wanted was to take third base, without getting caught.

This seems like a different project for Aronofsky and I’m sure he will make a fantastic film.
