Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that the next upcoming film in the series will be a reboot. During an interview with CB, the producer was asked about all the rumors about the franchise, including Margot Robbie be in the mix, along with reports that Johnny Depp he would return as Captain Jack Sparrow. In response to this, he said:
“It’s hard to say. You don’t know, you don’t really know. You don’t know how they come together. You just don’t know. Because with Top Gun you have an iconic, brilliant actor. And how many movies he’ll make before Top Gun, I can’t tell you. But we’re rebooting Pirates, so it’s easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.
One of the most recent reports regarding the franchise states that there were two separate films in development and that The bear star Ayo Edebiri he was wanted by Disney to star in one of those Pirates movies. It was explained that Edebiri was supposed to take on the role of a character called “Anne”.
This project was originally developed with Disneyland’s new female pirate ride, Redd, as the film’s protagonist. At a certain point, Guardians of the Galaxy star Karen Gillan he was said to be in line to play the character. But plans have changed and the focus is now on “a younger cast of pirates searching for hidden treasure.”
The Edebiri project was developed by Chernobyl Creator Craig Mazin and previous writer of Pirates films Ted Elliott. This movie is way ahead of the other one and if you go first, it will be this one.
As for the other Pirates movie, Margot Robbie he’s reportedly still attached to play the lead role in a new Pirates movie starring a woman, which is being developed by Birds of prey writer Christina Hodson. It was reported that this movie wasn’t moving forward, but I guess the report was wrong.
Whatever happens with this franchise, I love a good pirate movie, so in rebooting the franchise I hope they do something fun and very different from the previous films.
