DUNE director Denis Villeneuve will only make DUNE: MESSIAH if it is better than PART TWO

Sounds like Duna: Messiah it’s really not as sure of a thing as we thought it was. The director of the first two films, Denis Villeneuve, it is not yet sure if he will return to shoot the third film. Even though Warner Bros. wants a third film and Villeneuve is working on the script, he is planning to make one more film before finally deciding whether he wants to make another. Dune movie. During a recent interview with Empire, the director said:

“I shot both films back to back, which makes total sense to me. I felt it was a good idea to move on right after the first part. We were already planning, writing, etc. But it also meant that for six years I’ve been on Arrakis non-stop, and I think it would be healthy to take a step back. First, make sure you have a strong script. The thing I want to avoid is not having something ready. I’ve never done it and now I feel like it might be dangerous because of the excitement. We need to make sure all ideas are on paper.”

He then went on to say he won’t make a third Dune movie if it’s not better than the second:

“If we go back, it has to be real, it has to be relevant. If I ever make Dune Messiah, [it’s] because it will be better than the second part. Otherwise I won’t do it.”

I mean, I get it, but I hope he makes Dune: Messiah because he left the story wide open at the end of the sequel! It would be a shame and a waste not to finally finish the story he started.

The director had previously discussed his plans for a third film, saying: “There’s the second Dune book, The Messiah of Dune, from which an extraordinary film could be born. I always thought there could be a trilogy; later, we’ll see. They are years of work; I can’t imagine going any further.”

Dune is a mythical and emotionally charged hero’s journey and tells the story of Paul Atreides, “a brilliant and gifted young man born with a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to secure the future of his family and its people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence – a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential – only those who can conquer their fear will survive. ”.

The second part explores the “mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he joins Chani and the Fremen on a path of war of vengeance against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Faced with the choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he attempts to prevent a terrible future that only he can predict.”

Duna: Messiah is set several years after the events of the first book and follows Paul Atreides, now Emperor of the Known Universe. Paul’s rule is marked by political intrigue, religious fervor, and the consequences of his prescient visions. As he navigates the complexities of his position, Paul faces challenges from various factions, including the powerful Bene Gesserit Sisterhood, which seeks to control his bloodline. In the midst of all this turmoil, Paul’s relationship with his wife Chani and his young children adds a personal dimension to his difficulties.
