Short film preview for Scarlet Moreno’s VELMA, a ’60s-style short about the horrors of dating

GeekTyrant is happy to premiere the twisted horror thriller short film Velmaby the director Moreno Scarlettwho made his debut feature film, Phaedra which he created under the guidance of the director Roberto Rodriguez on his docuseries, Unmanned Rebel.

In Velma, “a woman is looking for a man who will love her for who she is. However, things quickly change as, through the lens of a late 1960s visual feast, the audience is taken on a psychological journey with the title character examining sexuality, shame and our social views of both. Combining striking 60s imagery and light horror camp, “Velma” tells his story with a wink and a (damn?) smile.”

The director shared in a statement: “Velma is a kind of visual poetry, examining femininity, sexuality and shame, all while giving the audience the chance to weigh their own opinions on these topics and what they deem to be acceptable female behavior.

Scarlet Moreno creates works that center the female experience in unexpected and exciting ways. Not only is she comfortable with horror and genre cinema, but it is also one of her favorite types of art to make because of the juxtaposition between the beautiful and the heartbreaking. Heavily influenced by the cinema of the ’60s and ’70s, but with a timeless voice and style all her own, Scarlet creates visually stunning worlds in which to tell provocative and engaging stories. Scarlet Moreno is a director, writer and actress based in Los Angeles. You have written and directed award-winning narrative short films and your debut feature film, Phaedra .

After premiering at Panic Fest in 2022, Velma had a successful two years at festivals, screening at festivals such as Nightmares, Horrorigins and Film Quest, among others. Velma won the Banshee Award (Underworlds Film Fest), Best Cinematography (Nightmares), the Fellini Award for Best Art Direction (Arthouse Film Fest), Best Editing (Sin City Horror Fest) and Best Costume Design (Film Quest) and is been nominated for many other nominations. run.
