It looks like we might actually have a sequel Adam Sandleris the classic 1996 golf comedy Happy Gilmore! Christopher McDonaldwho played Shooter McGavin in the original film, recently offered an update confirming that a script has been written.
McDonald was a guest on Cleveland’s 92.3 The Fan radio show, where he revealed, “I saw Adam about two weeks ago, and he said, ‘McDonald, you’re going to love this.’ I said, “What?” He says, “How about that?” [and] show me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2.'”
McDonald continued: “Maybe you should cut it (from this audio) because I don’t want to be a liar, but he showed it to me and I thought, ‘Well, that would be great.’ So it’s in the works. The fans are asking for it, dammit.”
That’s really exciting to hear! In 2021 Sandler and McDonald had given an interview with Golf Channel and when asked about a sequel, Sander said he would like the idea saying, “It hasn’t been discussed. But it certainly has been discussed on the Internet, and I think I , that Senior Tour idea… that would be amazing.”
The host then asked Sandler and McDonald if they were both present and if he could announce that the project had been greenlit. McDonald gave the thumbs up Sandler responded, “Yeah, yeah, you can greenlight this. Yeah, I’m in. I’d love to do it. Everybody’s been screaming it, like Adam said on the Internet and, you know, I just have to to say it would be a blast the Senior Tour with the two of us, oh my God.”
The film isn’t officially greenlit yet, but with a script written, the project is one step closer to being made. A sequel to Happy Gilmore could be a lot of fun! It would be fun to meet these characters and see what they’re up to!
