MAX has released a new teaser trailer for Matt Reeves’long awaited series The Penguinwhich is a spin-off of The Batman. Colin Farrell reprises his role and this new trailer shows him in his element. He reminds us how great Farrell is as an actor and why he is perfect for this role. The scene this trailer focuses on puts the spotlight on his performance.
The eight-episode Penguin series has been described as “Scarface-like” which will see the rise of the villain in the criminal underworld of Gotham City. Speaking previously about the film, Farrell said: “I think it’s going to be an eight-parter for HBO about Oz’s rise to power, filling that power vacuum that was created when Falcone was killed. Matt [Reeves]The original idea was to have the Penguin show start about a week after the Batman movie ended. And then, if it works, if the trajectory is interesting enough and if the audience accepts it and we do our job well, we have the second movie – Penguin in the second movie and we’ll pick up where the HBO show ends.
During another interview, Farrell shared that he read the first script and teased what we can expect from the series’ opening scene, sharing, “Gotham is still a little underwater. I read the first script for the first episode and it opens with my feet splashing in the water in Falcone’s office. Even just that, I read it and thought, ‘Oh, man.’”
The series is the protagonist Cristina Miliotiwho plays the female protagonist Sofia Falcone, and Rhenzy Feliz, who plays a teenager who the Penguin befriends and makes him his driver. The rest of the cast includes Michael Kelly (House of cards, Jack Ryan), Shohreh Aghdashloo (The Expanse, House of Sand and Fog) AND Deirdre O’Connell (External range) have joined the DC series.
Lauren LeFranc will play the role of writer and showrunner of the series and, speaking about it, he said: “I have long been a fan of the world of The Batman, and Matt’s film is such a powerful and bold entry into the canon. I’m excited and honored to continue telling stories in the dark world of Gotham City – and what better excuse to channel my inner villain than telling the story of Oswald Cobblepot? I’m excited to work with Colin, Matt, Dylan, 6th & Idaho, Warners and HBO Max as we work to bring this story to the screen.”
The series will premiere this fall.
