DeWanda wise stars in the recently released Blumhouse horror film Fictional, which she was very good at! It was a fun movie and I liked her performance. There was a point where Wise was supposed to play Maria Rambeau in 2019 Captain Marvel, but things ended up not working out. However, he wants to be part of the action of the Marvel movie and during an interview with The Movie Dweeb, he revealed the character he wants to play in the MCU:
“[Storm] He’s the only Marvel character I’m interested in. He’s the only Marvel character I’ve ever been interested in…. I think we alone will make that happen, and I thank you for that.
I can totally see Wise playing Storm, but we have no idea what Marvel’s future plans are for the X-Men or that character, but I’m pretty sure Deadpool and Wolverine will help lay the foundation for this.
As for what happened with Marvel and why things didn’t work out the first time, in a separate interview with Gizmodo, he shared that there were scheduling conflicts with Spike Lee’s series He must have it on Netflix:
“I didn’t choose to leave. Like, I would never make that choice for myself, it seems ridiculous. You sign a contract for a TV show and it’s in first place, and that’s just a manager… you have members of the public who say, “I would have taken up a lawsuit.” Good for you. I don’t want to be sued! I’m not trying to get sued by Spike Lee and Netflix. So, you know, it was very disappointing at the time and also difficult in that context.
Anyway, what do you think about Wise playing the role of Storm in the MCU? Do you think she would be right for the role?
