Oscar nominee and Emmy winner Jeffrey Wright (Westworld, Angels in America, American fiction) has signed on to star alongside the Oscar winner Denzel Washington (Training day, Fences) in the Oscar-winning director Spike Lee’S (Do the right thing, Malcolm X) revisitation of Akira KurosawaIt’s the classic thriller High and low.
Lee wrote the screenplay with Alan Fox for the English-language adaptation of the story of a rich man dealing with a kidnapping. Production on Apple Original Movies will begin this month.
In addition to Washington, High and low the cast also includes Ilfenesh Hadera (Billions). A24 will release the film theatrically ahead of its global launch on Apple TV+.
The film will be produced by Todd Black, who worked with Washington The equalizer film, for Escape Artists and Jason Michael Berman (Air) for Mandalay Pictures. In addition to directing, Lee will serve as executive producer through his 40 Acres And A Mule Filmworks. Mandalay’s Peter Guber will serve as executive producer, along with Juniper Productions’ Matthew Lindner, Chris Brigham and Katia Washington. Mandalay’s Jordan Moldo is co-producer.
