FX’s award-winning hit series The bear has been renewed for a fourth season, which will be filmed sequentially with the third season in Chicago.
The move has raised speculation that this could be the final chapter of the popular restaurant comedy — something that happened with another acclaimed FX comedy series, Atlantawhich ended after shooting seasons 3 and 4 back to back.
This has not been determined, according to sources, and season 5 of The bear remains a possibility. As for why seasons 3 and 4 are filmed back-to-back, accommodating talent schedules is one explanation as the show’s Emmy winners are on the rise. This fast-paced cooking drama has been a major vehicle for its stars, who are landing major, star-studded jobs in Hollywood Jeremy Allen White already establishing himself as a leading man with his work in this heartbreaking drama, The Iron Claw. Ayo Edebiri will return to voice the role of April O’Neil in the upcoming Ninja Turtles series, and has joined the cast of Inside out 2. Ebon Moss-Bachrach was just announced as Marvel’s Thing/Ben Grimm coming soon Fantastic Four.
Creator Christopher Storer’s star is also on the rise thanks to the way the show has captured the zeitgeist. Deadline reported earlier this week that Storer has signed on to write and direct an Amor Towles feature film The Lincoln Highway.
Season 3 of The bear will premiere in June. As for the future, we’ll just have to wait and see, but I hope it lasts for a while.
