In a shocking turn of events, X-Men ’97 Creator Beau De Mayo he was fired from the series before his debut.
According to THR, DeMayo’s work email was deactivated and the cast and crew were told he was no longer part of the project. DeMayo’s Instagram account was also deleted and no reason for her firing was revealed.
Marvel has not commented on the matter and DeMayo’s representatives have not released a statement and are not speaking to anyone.
Whatever happened must be a big deal. Since neither side offers any statements or details, I wonder if there are legal things going on behind the scenes. If so, it makes sense that no one talks. I’m curious to see how this all plays out.
DeMayo had already completed season two writing duties for the animated series. He also previously worked with Marvel Knight of the Moon and a previous script for the Lama movie.
X-Men’97 revisits the iconic ’90s era as the X-Men, a band of mutants who use their mysterious gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before, forced to face a new dangerous and unexpected future.
The series brings back the original voice cast included Ray Chase like Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith like Storm, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, JP Karliak as Morph, Lenore Zann in the role of Thief, Giorgio Buzza like Beast, AJ LoCascio in the role of Gambetto, Holly Chou like Jubilee, Isaac Robinson Smith as Bishop, Matthew Waterson like Magneto and Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler.
Jake Castorena is the supervising director and Charley Feldmann is the supervising producer. X-Men ’97 begins streaming on Disney+ March 20.
