An Alec Guinness reference was cut from C-3PO’s cameo in STAR WARS: AHSOKA

Star Wars: Ahsoka featured a brief but entertaining cameo by Antonio Daniels as C-3PO in the seventh episode of the series. He shows up to offer assistance to Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) during a courtroom scene where he finds himself in a difficult situation.

Well, during a panel at MEGACON in Orlando, Daniels revealed that he had snuck in a little Alec Guinness reference from Star Wars: A New Hope which was ultimately cut from the scene.

Daniels began by saying, “About a year ago or something, out of the blue [Lucasfilm] he called me and told me if I would be in an episode of Ahsoka. I was thrilled to be invited and had a wonderful time in Southern California, it was a beautiful studio. It has to be the best Ahsoka episode ever, just saying that. ThreeBO enters, and there’s a big courtroom scene going on. And I did something pretty clever here.”

He continued: “Dave Filoni and I had a script conference on Zoom. Basically, the scene was Threepio comes in, says something, and then leaves. If you ever watch that scene again, Threepio comes in from the back of the set, and there were two guards. I came up with a line, which I completely stole from Episode IV with Sir Alec Guinness. I say to the guards, ‘You don’t need to see my identification.’ It was the real deal.”

It would have been a funny joke, but I understand why it was ultimately cut. She was just a little too on the nose.

Daniels had a great time during the production and previously shared, “I never thought Threepio would have the honor of appearing in the rightly praised Ahsoka. So we were both surprised to receive a call from the Master himself, Dave Filoni. And then there we were, enveloped in the absolutely addictive effects of The Volume. And there they were, the dedicated crew and cast of adorable and talented humans and droids. Rarely have 3PO and I received such an enthusiastic welcome, nor such loving support during our days on set. I heard fans were moved to tears by seeing their golden friend on screen once again. I was equally moved by the surprised ovation from the assembled team as I finally emerged from that iconic figure. Perhaps this is a good time to thank them, and so many millions of people, for the love they have shown my friend over so many years. So… on behalf of him… Thank you.”

I imagine this won’t be the last time we see C-3PO. I have no idea when or where the droid will appear next.
