EA’s Mandalorian-inspired STAR WARS game reportedly scrapped because there were no Jedi or lightsabers

EA was developing a new Star Wars video game centered on a Mandalorian character. Not much was known about the game, but earlier this month the game was scrapped. Some details have now come to light as to why the game was cancelled, the reasons given are ridiculous.

What we know about the game is that it would revolve around an unnamed Mandalorian character and that it would be a first-person shooter. The game’s development began in 2022 and was generating some excitement among science fiction fans.

According to the YouTube channel Origami, one of the main reasons EA eliminated it Star Wars game was because it didn’t contain Jedi or lightsabers!

“Basically from what I’ve been told, from internal communications from Electronic Arts, the goal would be to say ‘yes’ to Star Wars but Star Wars without the Jedi… [Makes fart sound effect]. They’re not sure it pays off sufficiently compared to what would have been put in.”

Those working inside EA are reportedly told, “If there’s no lightsaber, we’re not too sure. That’s all.” So basically, they don’t think fans want to play Star Wars games without Jedi characters and lightsabers, which is absolutely ridiculous! Why would they limit themselves creatively like that?

Star Wars it’s more than Jedi, lightsabers and The Force! Mandalorians are really badass characters, and I’d love to play a game completely centered around a Mandalorian character in a corner of the Star Wars universe where they don’t necessarily have to run into a lightsaber-wielding Jedi. Give me that epic adventure! It’s a shame they don’t if this is actually true.

When the game was initially scrapped, Laura Miele, president of EA Entertainment and Technology, shared in a memo: “As we reviewed [EA’s Star Wars studio] Across Respawn’s portfolio over the past few months, what’s clear is that the games our players are most excited about are Jedi and Respawn’s rich library of proprietary brands.

He continued: “Knowing this, we have decided to abandon initial development of a Star Wars FPS action game to focus our efforts on new projects based on our proprietary brands, while providing support for existing games.”

He concluded: “It is always difficult to abandon a project, and this decision does not reflect the team’s talent, tenacity or passion for the game.”

Hey EA, you’re crazy! Speaking for myself, I’m bored Star Wars Jedi-centric games! Give me something different! Give me something unique and new! I was excited about this Mandalorian game, don’t you know how popular Mandalorian characters are!? It’s a shame that EA doesn’t have an expansive vision for Star Wars.
