McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters, Annabelle returns home) will star and executive produce a new psychological thriller titled Outright lies. Alex Kalimnios is preparing to direct with Mandalay Pictures to produce.
The film is set in 1990 and surrounds the hysteria of the war on drugs. The story centers on “a teenage girl falsely accused of drug use, who is held against her will and must escape a cult-like drug rehabilitation program supported by the U.S. government, while her secret agent father of the CIA, is so lost in political influence that he is unaware of the danger his daughter is in.
The film was written by Ren Trella and it was inspired by real events in his life as a teenager, so it sounds terrifying.
Grace said in a statement: “I am so honored to bring this compelling story to the screen. After speaking with our amazing writer Ren and hearing her true story of what she endured and basing the screenplay on it, I knew this would be a heartbreaking, but necessary project to make.
Kalymnios added, “I am so honored to direct this haunting and gripping story inspired by true events and I am thrilled that Mckenna Grace will lead us through this shocking and emotional nightmare of one girl’s fight to survive STRAIGHT.”
Production is expected to begin this summer in North Carolina.
