In the meantime, we continue to wait for a trailer to be released for the new one Sonja Rossa movie, we have some new details to share with you for the movie with its star, Matilda Lutz. She explains that the MJ BassettThe directed film will tell a story in which the power of women is very strong and will also have less of a “male gaze”.
During an interview with CBR, he explained, “So, what can I say Sonja Rossais that the first and comics were [made] with a very masculine orientation. This is a completely different story, and it’s about women’s empowerment, which I loved about the script.”
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone on the creative team involved with the film. I have no problem with that, all I want is for the movie to tell a great story because Red Sonja has always been a badass character.
Bassett previously said that this version of Red Sonja will not be depicted as a victim of sexual assault, and instead of delving into “sexual politics,” the reboot will focus on the character as a “human being in the world of femininity.”
Producer Les Weldon also explained that the film will also be more grounded than other films in the fantasy genre: “We’re almost done with the editing. That film is very grounded and very real, if you will, but there are a couple of sequences in which we have to get the CGI right so that you don’t look at them and say, “Oh, that creature wasn’t really there.” So we’ve finished the movie and are ready to move on to the next part of the post on that topic. Red Sonja is also a little bit, I don’t want to say a darker version, but a little bit darker than you would expect, certainly compared to the original Red Sonja. We want to be very careful with the CG to make sure it’s done correctly and that it delivers on the film a service rather than a disservice.”
The film is also the protagonist Wallis Day (Sex/Life, Batwoman) like Annisia and Robert Shehan (The Umbrella Academy, Misfits) as Draygan. Other cast members include Michael Bisping (xXx: The Return of Xander Cage) in the role of Falco, Martyn Ford as General Karlak (F9: The Quick Saga, Final Score), Eliza Matengu (Thor: Love and Thunder) like Amarak, Manal El Feitury (Code red) like Ayala, and Katrina Durden (Doctor Strange, Shadow and Bone) as Saevus.
The screenplay was written by Joey Soloway (Transparent) AND Tasha Huo (from Netflix tomb Raider). The story of the beloved Sword She-Devil began in comics in 1973, and now, 50 years later, she remains the greatest female sword-and-sorcery hero of them all!
Sonja Rossa was created by Robert E. Howard and adapted from Roy Thomas.
