Millie Bobby BrownNetflix’s new fantasy film Bridesmaid tells the story of a princess named Elodie, who finds herself fighting for survival after being thrown into a cave with a dragon. The film offers a distorted take on the fairy tale genre and was inspired by some unlikely sources.
During an interview with GamesRadar+, the film’s director, Juan Carlos Fresnadillotalked about Ridley Scott’S Alien and director Alfred Hitchcock like his influences. He explained:
“I mean, Alien is definitely one of my favorite movies. And it’s there, you know. The shadow of Alien is sort of a protective guide, I think, for any director. But I would say that specifically for Damsel because I was so keen to show one more mysterious layer of suspense which, funny enough, I would say Hitchcock influenced me.”
He went on to explain how Hitchcock’s cinematic style influenced the film by saying:
“For this film too, because the way Elodie, for example, discovers places and the way the camera follows our point of view. It’s an honor for that kind of cinematic style that Hitchcock made.”
The dark fantasy film tells the story of a princess who finds herself fighting for survival, and the synopsis reads: “A dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find that the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. . Thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive.
Fresnadillo offered some additional insight into the film saying, “It’s a thrilling adventure with a really dark twist that will put you on the edge of your seat… As a director, one of the things I always want to do is surprise audiences with a new take on a story , especially this guy [traditional story] – we need to modernize those stories with new interpretations, more modern and real ways, to connect with audiences.”
The director also praised Brown and said that she was able to capture the emotion they needed for the film, describing her as “exceptional”. The director added: “She understood that it had to be an extreme survival experience. And to make it believable, you have to convey suffering and pain.”
The director went on to say that the creative team went to great lengths to make the audience feel the intensity of the story, saying, “This is a movie about a transformation – about a girl becoming a woman – and you have to really feel the intensity “. its. We didn’t want to cheat any of this, and that’s why we pushed all the limits to make this a roller coaster experience for the audience.
Brown is joined in the film by Angela Bassetto, Robin Wright, Ray Winstone, Nick Robinson, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Nick Robinson, Brooke CarterAND Olli Ackermann.
