The new sequel to the teen horror series I know what you did last summer is moving forward, and even though the production of the film is progressing slowly, it is still progressing, and the screenwriter of the film, Leah McKendrick, is here to assure us that the film will feature updates that will bring it up to date, but will also deliver the tried-and-true formula of “hot people doing questionable things.” McKendrick explained to Collider (via ComingSoon):
“I mean, it’s sexy people who do questionable things, right? Basically, I think it really deals with some big ideas about hero and villain, right and wrong, how your skeletons come back to haunt you. And in the age of the internet and where fame is such a revered concept, the creation of TikTok and social media, who is Julie James in a world where there are no more secrets?”
He went on to add:
“Obviously I watched it 8 million times while I was working on it, but it’s fun. It’s just a popcorn, wild ride. Sometimes it’s campy, Jennifer Love Hewitt is so sexy, Freddie Prinze Jr. is so sexy. Sarah Michelle [Gellar]Ryan [Phillippe], they are so wonderful. It’s like nice people behave badly. You can never have enough. There’s a lot of that in this film.
Jennifer Love Hewitt AND Freddie Prinze Jr. are returning to reprise their roles from the original films, and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson will direct. No other casting, title or story news has been revealed, but stay tuned for updates as they come.
