Pioneering electrical engineer and inventor Nikola Tesla will receive three feature films telling the story of his life. This is the first time I think I’ve heard of a biographical trilogy in development, but that’s what’s happening here!
The project was created at Showdog Studio and was developed and co-written by Tim Eatona visual effects veteran who has worked on films such as Men in black, Twist AND Beowulf.
The films will be based on the 1996 biography Wizard: The Life and Times of Nikola Tesla and the 2021 biography Tesla: wizard at war. It will also draw inspiration from various other research by the author of both works, Marc J. Seifer. The development team had access to various other letters and artifacts from Tesla’s life to aid in the making of the trilogy.
Founder of Showdog John Attard said in a statement: “We are proud to work with Marc and Tim and believe they will be a powerful vehicle through which we can explore how, in a world increasingly influenced by technology and its misuse, Tesla’s very human story on Weight of Genius is a timely and cautionary tale from which we can learn.
Executive producer Robert Harris added: “When people hear the word ‘Tesla’ today, there’s a good chance their first thoughts will go to the automotive company of the same name. What is not evident is how influential Nikola Tesla was in shaping the future and the cost he had to bear for a man as complex as he was brilliant. This is a human story about the enormous weight of greatness in a world that longs to exploit it, and there are so many stories to tell about an extraordinary figure whose career and life took so many twists and turns.”
If there’s anyone who deserves a complete biopic of the film trilogy, it’s Nikola Tesla. This boy’s story is absolutely incredible with the things he created, and also tragic as his life was also marked by financial difficulties and a solitary lifestyle in his later years. He died on January 7, 1943 in New York City, at the time largely unrecognized for his contributions.
Nikola Tesla emerged posthumously as a symbol of scientific genius and innovation, with his legacy lasting in the many technologies and inventions that resulted from his work.
