JACK REACHER: NEVER GO BACK The director explains why Tom Cruise’s sequel failed

You know what’s funny? I actually forgot Tom Cruise made a sequel to his 2012 action film Jack Reach, based on the book series by Lee Child. The sequel is titled Jack Reacher: Never go backand came out in 2016. I don’t remember much about the sequel, but it co-starred Cobie Smulders.

The sequel bombed at the box office with just $58.7 million domestically. So, what went wrong with this movie? Why is it so forgettable and why was it a box office success? The film’s director recently talked about this in his book “Hits, Flops, and Other Illusions: My Fortysomething Years in Hollywood.”

Zwick took over from Christopher McQuarrie, who directed the first film, and when he spoke about the problem with the sequel, he said:

“Jack Reacher: Never Go Back,” which Tom Cruise and I made in 2016, failed at the box office. I blame myself (and my willing accomplice, Don Granger) for thinking audiences might enjoy a mash-up of “Jack Reacher” and “Paper Moon,” when in reality they just wanted more red meat. I had a great time working with Cobie Smulders, and I certainly don’t blame Tom for not being a six and two – as the novelist Lee Child described his protagonist – and if Tom ever calls me to do a third film together, I will definitely do it. collection.

It’s hard for me to accept Cruise as Jack Reacher. He was undoubtedly one of the most miscast roles in Hollywood. Alan Ritchson he is perfect in that role in the series Reacherand with that amazing show in full swing, there’s no way Cruise would attempt to revisit Jack Reacher in a movie again.

In case you forgot Jack Reacher: Never go back like I did, here’s a trailer!
