Disney CEO Bob Iger comments on superhero fatigue, saying it’s not tiredness, audiences just want great films

In recent years, fans seem to care less and less about the films produced by the Marvel machine, with a few exceptions. The films (as well as some of the shows) have been squeezed together and some have felt rushed and half-hearted when it comes to the stories they set out to tell. It seems like when fans were really hungry for new content, in 2020 and 2021, when we were mostly stuck at home, studios were just planning to crank out as much as they could as quickly as possible, but many believe that wasn’t the case. Like this. t the right course of action, as quantity versus quality standard always ends up looking like a mistake.

Things seem to be taking shape, as the studio seems to have acknowledged the misstep and have talked about changing how content is created moving forward. Asked about the concept of “superhero fatigue” at the Morgan Stanley conference in San Francisco on Tuesday, Disney CEO Bob Iger explained that “we’re doing a lot” to correct the downward trend in Disney films that ” They are going through difficult times.” that needed to be addressed.”

Iger then addressed Marvel Studios, dismissing the idea that audiences are suffering from superhero fatigue, saying:

“A lot of people think it’s audience fatigue, not audience fatigue. They want great films. And if you build them great, they will come and there are countless examples of that. Some are ours and some are others. Oppenheimer Iis a perfect example of this. Simply a fantastic film. Concentration is really important. We’ve reduced Marvel’s production, both the number of films made and the number of TV shows, and that becomes really critical, but I feel good about the team. I feel good about the IP we’re making. I talked about many projects. Let’s look years ahead, really. And it’s iterative.”

Iger also mentioned some of the projects in the Disney/Marvel slate that fans can’t wait to see:

“Looking at our film program for 2025, we are excited to attract audiences Captain America: Brave New World AND Fantastic Four for Marvel, Pixar has Zootopia 2and then there is Avatara3. And we look forward to 2026 and beyond Frozen 3the first History of the toy films from 2019 and a new one Star Wars film that brings The Mandalorian and Grogu to the big screen for the first time.”
