It wasn’t easy for Rebel moon star Sofia Boutella to see all the negative reviews that have come out for Zack Snyderthe sci-fi adventure film. This was a passion project for the director, something he had been working on for a long time, but it didn’t work out for a lot of people and the film currently has a 21% on Rotten Tomatoes. During a recent interview with Vulture, Boutella spoke about how she felt when the negative reviews started coming in, saying:
“I always thought I was fully armed to deal with those blows, and then I read the criticism of ‘Rebel Moon’ and it really hit me. I’ll just be honest about it. I feel like I’m carrying this forward for everyone who cared so much about this project, and that’s what struck me. Not the way I look. If anything, I was lucky enough and people like my work, but the film was criticized.
“I was really impressed by everyone who put so much heart, tears and sweat into this project. It’s hard to imagine anything being demolished to this extent. I’m proud to have been a part of it, and if there’s no more ‘Rebel Moon,’ it will be a very important part of my life that I will defend forever.”
Yes, it takes a lot of work, time, effort and money to develop epic films like this! It’s not easy! So, I still can’t understand why these types of projects move to production when they’re clearly not ready. While the acting is fine and it is beautifully shot, the script and story clearly needed more work. Rebel moon seriously, it could have been a damn great movie! But it was basically a poorly written sci-fi remake Seven Samurai. I have yet to talk to anyone who actually liked the movie.
We still have the sequel coming out next month, and then we’ll have two three-hour extended cuts of those films after that. I hope the sequel is better, but it will probably be more of the same.
In the story, a ragtag group of rebels rises up to fight against a giant, evil empire. It is set in a “peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical regent Balisarius. They send a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand against the Tyrant.
The Scargiver “continues the epic saga of Kora (Sofia Boutella) and the surviving warriors as they prepare to sacrifice everything, fighting alongside the brave inhabitants of the Veldt, to defend a once peaceful village, home to those who lost all they had in the fight against Mother Earth. On the eve of battle the warriors must face the truths of their past, each of which will reveal why they fight. As the full force of the Kingdom bears down on the growing rebellion, unbreakable bonds are forged, great heroes emerge and legends are born…”
Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver the release is scheduled for April 19th. What did you think of the first one? Rebel moon movie? If you liked it, I’d be curious to know what aspects of the film you liked.
