SCREAM Star Skeet Ulrich offers insight into the original plans for Melissa Barrera’s Sam in SCREAM 7

Spyglass Media had good success with the fifth and sixth installments of He shoutedand a seventh film was planned that would continue the story arc Melissa BarraraIt’s Sam. But everything fell apart very quickly when Barrera was fired from the film. Jenna Ortega then he quit, and then the director Christopher Landon he left, saying, “It was a dream job that turned into a nightmare.”

There is a new film currently in development, but it will essentially have to start from scratch and build a completely new story. There was a final plan for Barrera’s character Sam, however Skeet Ulrich they recently shed some light on those original plans.

We learn from the films that Billy Loomis is Sam’s father, and he had a recurring presence in Sam’s life as she was descending into a killing spree. She seemed to really enjoy brutally stabbing bad guys to death. According to Ulrich, the idea was for Sam to finally embrace his inner darkness Screams 7. In an interview with ScreenRant, she said:

“Exactly that. I was hoping for exactly that, and that’s kind of the idea that was floated to me a couple of years ago. That it was a three-movie story arc, with that in mind. Now, I’ve never seen none of the seven drafts or anything like that. And I don’t know, I mean, it’s possible it didn’t even include any of that. But yeah, my hope was that if it meant anything, it directly affected the plot.”

You could see that that was the direction Sam’s arc was going, and it’s the one I would have liked to see play out. Barrera previously said, “It could be a very interesting journey as an actor to explore the duality of the character and embrace the dark side a little bit. I don’t know. It’s exciting!” But that story is dead.

As for what’s currently on the cards, it’s been reported that the makers are looking to bring it along Neve Campbell come back as Sydney Prescott and Patrick Dempsey to reprise his role as Mark Kincaid Scream 3. These actors are on their wish list along with Courteney Cox. They’re obviously struggling and trying to figure out how to save the franchise after eliminating the current plot and all the behind-the-scenes drama.

We’ll just have to wait and see how all this continues to unfold.
