Michael Fassbender is in talks to star in the directorial George Clooneythe next project in the series, The Department. The show is a spy thriller based on The Bureaua French spy series created, directed and produced by Eric Rochant.
The original series centers on “Guillaume Debailly – aka Paul Lefebvre, aka Malotru – a member of a clandestine branch of the French Secret Service (DGSE) who returns to his base after a six-year mission in Damascus. As he struggles to shed his false identity and his illicit relationship with a Syrian woman, he finds himself caught in a double cross between the DGSE and the CIA.”
The show is said to have been a major success due to its “look at the psychology of secret agents, inclusion of geopolitical issues that resonate with current events and international locations”.
This seems like a perfect project for Clooney and Fassbender to collaborate on! A straight-to-series order has also been placed by Showtime. The series is produced by Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse Pictures, MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios.
