Saint Vincent co-stars Naomi Watts (Feud: Capote vs. The Swans) AND Bill Murray (Ghostbusters: The Frozen Empire) have signed on to star The frienda filmmaker-written adaptation of Sigrid Nunez’s New York Times bestselling novel Scott McGehee AND David Siegel (History of Montana). They are united by Sarah Pidgeon (Beautiful little things), nominated for a Golden Globe Constance Wu (Crazy rich Asians), Emmy winner Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale), AND Noma Dumezweni (The observer).
Winner of the 2018 National Book Award for Fiction, The friend follows a New York writer in the aftermath of the unexpected death of her lifelong friend and mentor. Next, she must deal with his complicated literary legacy, three eccentric ex-wives, and an enormous, heartbroken Great Dane named Apollo.
Currently in production on the film in New York, Siegel and McGehee are producing through their new company Big Creek Projects. McGhee and Siegel recovered The friend after writing, directing and producing History of Montana, a drama starring Haley Lu Richardson and Owen Teague, which Bleecker Street acquired from TIFF. Previously, the duo directed the acclaimed custody battle drama what Maisie knewwith Julianne Moore and Alexander Skarsgård, which debuted at the same festival.
