Paramount+ has announced that it will renew the second season of the reboot series Frasier. Season two will continue to film in front of a live studio audience at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles.
The series follows Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer)—a character who originated on NBC Greetings and went on to see an 11-season story arc in his self-titled series, based in Seattle. Now the character is in the next chapter of his life after returning to Boston to face new challenges, form new relationships and hopefully finally realize an old dream or two.
Frasier even stars Jack Cutmore-Scott as Freddy, Frasier’s son; Nicholas Lyndhurst as Alan, Frasier’s old college friend turned college professor; Toks Olagundoye as Olivia, Alan’s colleague and head of the university’s psychology department; Jess Salgueiro as Eve, Freddy’s roommate; AND Anders Keith as David, Frasier’s nephew. The first season featured guest appearances from the cast of the original series, including Bebe Neuwirth AND Peri Gilpin.
Grammer said in a statement:
“Fraiser it’s a love story and I’m very happy that we will be allowed to continue it. I’m happy that our partners at CBS Studios and Paramount+ are on board for another season, and I can’t wait for fans to see what we have in store!”
While Greetings co-creator James Burrows confirmed that the legendary bar from the Mothership series has been retired for good, Grammer has ideas on how to bring back two more former castmates: Ted Danson as Sam Malone and Shelley Lungo as Diane Chambers.
Grammer told Deadline on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards in January:
“The relationship with Diane is something that still gnaws at me [Frasier] partly because he felt like he had failed. It would be nice if they acknowledged each other… ‘I’m glad you did well.’ It would only happen if it was important to Frasier’s development as a human being.
Likewise, he addressed what it would take for a reunion with Danson in this universe. “If Sam Malone is still alive and has a vital link to get Frasier moved to another place,” Grammer joked.
Although fans of the original Frasier I’d like to see David Hyde PiercReturning as Frasier’s brother Niles, that return seems more impossible. In December, Pierce revealed that he had moved on and was enjoying his time working on stage and other new projects.
