Last year it was announced that Warner Bros. would be developing a new live-action adaptation of JK Rowling’S Harry Potter story, and this time it will be developed as a TV series. We’ve now learned that this high-profile series will debut on Max in 2026.
This news was shared by David Zaslav at the company’s fourth quarter earnings call. He said:
“We have not been shy about our enthusiasm for Harry Potter. The last film was made more than twelve years ago.”
Zaslav also revealed that he also recently met Rowling in London a few weeks ago to talk about the project, saying:
“I was in London a few weeks ago with Casey [HBO and Max chief Casey Bloys] and Channing [WBD TV chief Channing Dungey] and we spent real time with JK and his team. Both parties are excited to revive this franchise. Our conversations have been amazing and we couldn’t be more excited about what lies ahead. We can’t wait to share ten years of new stories with fans around the world on Max.”
The series will cast young actors in the roles of the main characters and will be released over the next ten years. This is a big project and Rowling previously said in a statement: “Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me and I look forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow a certain degree of depth and detail”. offered only by a long-running television series.
