Stephen King Continues to Praise New Movie SALEM and Is Confused as to Why WB Is Holding It Back

I saw the first trailer for Salem’s Lot about two years ago and I was super impressed with what I saw! This sounds like a great and scary adaptation of Stephen KingIt’s the classic vampire story. It’s crazy to me that Warner Bros. hasn’t released this movie yet! Even King is confused by what the studio is doing!

King saw the film and was impressed! In a recent post on X, the author once again shared his thoughts on the film and his confusion as to why WB is holding it back. He said:

“Between you and me, Twitter, I’ve seen the new SALEM’S LOT and it’s pretty good. Old school horror movie: slow build, big payoff. Not sure why WB is holding it back; not that it’s embarrassing, or anything like that genre. Who knows. I just write the fucking stuff.”

King previously spoke about the film several months ago, saying, “It feels like a horror version of slow-burn movies like THE GREAT ESCAPE. It’s very well constructed. There are deviations from the book that I don’t agree with, but overall, faithful. Best scene: Danny Glick in the hospital, reaching for a bag of blood. Glick’s scene could have been directed by John Carpenter in his prime.”

The author further stated: “Warner Bros’ remake of SALEM’S LOT, currently shelved, is vigorous and engaging. It has the feel of “old Hollywood,” when a film was given a chance to catch its breath before getting down to business. When attention spans were longer, in other words.

Hopefully WB releases this movie soon, and when they do they better release it in theaters! Those people running WB right now are crazy, so who knows what they’ll do. I wouldn’t be surprised if they already wrote it off for a tax deduction and didn’t tell anyone.

Lewis Pullmann (Bad times at El Royale, Top Gun: nonconformist) stars in Salem’s Lot, and will take on the role of author Ben Mears, “a man who returns to his childhood home, Jerusalem’s Lot, in search of inspiration for his next book, only to find that his hometown is prey to a vampire.” , leading him to join a ragtag group who will fight the evil presence.

Speaking previously about the film, Pullman said: “It’s scary to do these remakes, man. It’s like this and [Top Gun: Maverick], there is so much pressure that it is difficult to create a blend to be successful. But Gary Dauberman, the director, really cares about doing the book justice. Also, the previous adaptation was in two parts, because it’s a really heavy book and there are so many different moving parts and so many characters. So there are some parts where Gary had to push and find what was really the heart of the film to keep, but for the most part he’s really faithful to the book and keeps a lot of the original dialogue. He’s a Stephen King hound, so he doesn’t want to get Stephen dirty.”

He added: “So I think he’s in good hands, Gary’s a really smart guy who has a keen eye for things. I think he doesn’t just lean into jump scares, but he leans into the more conceptual and visual stuff which, rather than to a shock that fades from your body in the next five minutes, something that is more visual, like an imprint that is imprinted on your retinas like a disturbing image that you will wake up from in the middle of the night and from which you cannot shake the your head.”

The film comes from the director Gary Daubermann and even stars Jordan Preston Carter as Mark Petrie, Alfredo Woodard as Doctor Cody, Makenzie Leigh as Susan Norton, John Benjamin Hickey as Father Callahan, and William Sadler in an unannounced role. James Wan he is a producer of the film.
