An inspiring trailer has been released for Netflix’s upcoming biopic, Shirleywith the Oscar and Emmy winning actress Queen King (If Beale Street Could Talk, Guardians, Jerry Maguire) as Shirley Chisholm, the first black woman elected to the United States Congress. The film chronicles his groundbreaking 1972 presidential campaign. The film is written and directed by John Ridleywhich won an Oscar for writing 12 Years a Slave.
King leads the cast, which is rounded out by Lance Reddick, Lucas Hedges, Terrence Howard, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Christina Jackson, Michele Cherie, Dorian Crossmond Missick, Amira Vann, W. Earl Brown, Brad James, Queen King AND André Holland. The film is produced by Ridley, sisters Regina and Reina King, Anikah McLaren and Elizabeth Haggard. Jeff Skoll and Ted Gidlow are the executive producers.
Shirley will be released on Netflix on March 22nd and it looks like it’s going to be a great story and another great performance from King. Watch the trailer below:
