The JOKER sequel had a budget of 200 million dollars! Was there really a need for such a large budget?

In a recent report from Variety, the director’s budget was revealed Todd Phillips’ Joker Continuation, Joker: Folie a Deux, it went up to $200 million, which is insane considering the first film only cost $60 million. Does a Joker sequel, which is going to be a musical, really need a $200 million budget?! NO.

It’s explained Joaquin Phoenix will receive $20 million to reprise his role as Arthur Fleck, while Lady Gaga Will be paid $12 million to play Harley Quinn. So what was the rest of the money used for? Probably to line the pockets of the producers. But seriously, the Joker sequel shouldn’t have cost $200. As someone who has never had money to burn, it just seems like the decision making is poor, especially when right now movies that should be big at the box office, have been underperforming. James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy I won’t even get that kind of budget.

The Joker sequel will be a musical and its story will be set primarily in Arkham Asylum. The working title of the film, Joker: Folie a Deux, refers to the clinical term for the “shared madness,” hallucinations and delusions of two people. For $200 million, Phillips better make some truly spectacular moments!

During a previous interview with cinematographer Lawrence Sher, he says the project is a “big swing.” He explains: “One thing I appreciate about Todd Phillips – with whom I made seven films, including Joker – is that he always takes risks. The new Joker will be released next year and we are finishing post-production. This movie is a big change and will be really surprising for people. I’m so excited for everyone to see it.

The film is also the protagonist Zazie Beetz in the role of Sophie Dumond, with Catherine Keener, Jacob LoflandAND Brendan Gleeson who will play unknown characters.

Warner Bros. will release the film theatrically on October 4, 2024.
