American psycho author Bret Easton Ellis is all set to make his directorial debut with a horror film project titled RelapseAND Stranger things actor Joseph Quinn he is set to star in the film.
Relapse is described as a “high-concept horror” film, this is the description: “Fueled by his unstable personality and the encroaching power of social media, Matt’s paranoia grows, ruining his rehab program. When he starts using it again, a mysterious presence begins to grow around Matt and reveals itself to be a monster that has haunted him since he was a teenager. His therapist tries to help him, convinced that the monster is actually in Matt’s head.”
Ellis spoke about the project, saying, “I grew up watching the iconic horror films of the ’70s. I wrote “Lunar Park,” a horror novel, as an homage to Stephen King. It seems appropriate that my first feature film is a horror film. There’s a simplicity to it Relapse it seems like the perfect form for my directorial debut: something direct and with great impact.”
Ellis said he has “never seen a monster movie in the kind of upscale Los Angeles setting that I’ve written about and that I’m familiar with. She continued to describe Relapse as a “monster movie with (its) signature characters – young, beautiful, rich – at the center.” He also said it was “a personal film. It will have my hits: sex, drugs and paranoia. It will also be a fun, lush, commercial movie that a lot of people will like.
Ramy Nahashead of international sales at SND, said:Relapse combines the look and feel of the horror genre with the unique perspective of Bret Easton Ellis. It’s the perfect mix of the themes Bret is known for within a monster movie. A cult author, an emerging actor and a captivating screenplay.”
Producer Simone Vallone said Ellis has “a unique voice and vision as a writer. There is nothing more exciting than being at his side as he invents his film language together with his collaborators. Having the experience of SND and Adrian Guerra on the ground to drive this project forward is what Relapse really needs.”
Nicholas Rollandwho produces the film at SND, he says Relapse will have a “tangible, cinematic presence, as in The thing, Pan’s labyrinth, The host OR Alien.”
This should be a great and interesting horror movie!
