Christopher Nolan says the casting of Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man is historic in the world of cinema

Christopher Nolan recently appeared on The show is late and during the show he praised Robert Downey Junior.which he recently starred in Oppenheimer. The actor is up for best supporting actor for his portrayal of Lewis Strauss in the film.

Nolan was also a big fan of the actor playing Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, and explained that Downey Jr.’s role in that role was historic and memorable. The director said:

“I always wanted to work with him. I’ve always noticed that in his work and he has the same charisma as Tony Stark. The fact that he plays Iron Man is one of the most important casting decisions ever made in the history of cinema.”

That’s a bold statement, but you know what? It’s hard to argue with that because she’s right. Downey Jr. was the perfect casting for Tony Stark! Nolan went on to talk about the type of actor Downey Jr. is and his generosity of spirit, explaining:

“You’re looking for some kind of generosity. She has this incredible generosity of spirit. It means that when he’s in a scene with other people he makes sure that everyone is doing their best, that everyone is capable of giving their best. It’s helping them clarify those emotional connections.

At one point, Nolan met with Downey Jr. for the role of the Scarecrow Batman begins. Even though Nolan wanted to work with him, he obviously felt he wasn’t right for the role. Downey Jr. recalled that meeting: “I remember we met for tea and I thought, ‘He doesn’t seem like he really put any effort into this interview.’ And he was polite and all that, but I mean, you know, you can tell when someone’s kind of like, ‘It’s not going to go your way.'”
