Actor Cilian Murphy (Peaky Blinders, Oppenheimer) has signed on for his next project, his first under his new production company Big Things Films with longtime collaborator Alan Moloney. The film, which is in development at Netflix, is called Steveand the story is an adaptation of Max Porter’s novel Shy. Porter wrote the film’s screenplay.
Steve is a retelling of the original story and charts a pivotal 24 hours in the life of its eponymous character, a last-chance reform school principal (Murphy) who struggles to keep his students in line while also grappling with his spiraling health mental.
Moloney and Murphy are the producers. Little things like this director (e.g Peaky Blinders alum) Tim Mielants is leading the project.
With Big Things Films, Murphy is solidifying himself as a producer after cutting his teeth as an executive producer on three seasons of Peaky Blinders and as producer of his next film, Little things like this. An independent, story-driven company, Big Things was initially created to produce Little things like this, and aims to collaborate with individual filmmakers, writers, actors and directors, both new and established, who have something to say and are passionate about what they do. Big Things will partner with like-minded financiers, studios, distributors and streamers in both film and television.
The company will look for material featuring Murphy, but not exclusively. Steve is looking to start production this spring.
