Three years later Gina Carano was fired from The Mandalorian from Disney and Lucasfilm, is fighting the Disney kingdom and suing them. She is seeking damages for her lost job and a court order to get her role back as Rebel Ranger, Cara Dune. She did too Elon Musk on his side by paying the legal costs.
The lawsuit reads: “A short time ago, in a galaxy not so distant, defendants made clear that only one orthodoxy of thought, word, or deed was acceptable in their empire, and that those who dared to question or failed to complying fully would not be tolerated. And so it was with Carano.”
She was fired after sharing a social media post that compared the political climate in America to that of Nazi Germany. They are seeking a jury trial and the complaint was filed yesterday.
The wrongful termination and sex discrimination charge adds: “The rule of law still reigns over the defendants’ empire… and Carano has returned to demand that they be held accountable for their bullying, discriminatory and retaliatory actions – actions that have inflicted not only substantial emotional consequences.” damages, but millions of dollars in lost earnings.”
Carano took to social media to announce her legal move and says her “words have consistently been twisted to demonize and dehumanize me as a far-right extremist.”
Carano is also trying to paint Disney as having a sexist double standard. The lawsuit goes on to say, “Defendants also discriminated against Carano by treating her differently than her male co-stars who also made public political statements on social media. Her male co-stars were not disciplined, much less fired in a way that would destroy their careers, even though some reportedly found their statements “abhorrent.”
Carano and her legal team have been preparing for this for quite some time. It’s not an easy task to take on the Mouse House, but she and her team feel confident enough to take the cause and take them on. It will be interesting to see how it turns out!

Today is an important day for me: I’m filing a lawsuit against @lucasfilm and @Disney
After 20 years of building a career from the ground up, and during the regime of former Disney CEO Bob Chapek, Lucasfilm released this statement on Twitter, firing me from The Mandalorian: “Gina Carano is not currently employed at Lucasfilm and I am not plans for her will be in the future. However, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
Nothing could be further from the truth. The truth is, I was hounded out of everything I posted, every post I liked because I didn’t fit the acceptable narrative of the time. My words were constantly twisted to demonize and dehumanize me as a far-right extremist. It was a smear campaign aimed at silencing, destroying and making an example of me.
The thing is, I’ve never even used aggressive language. I shared inspiring quotes, images, memes, and occasionally used my own words, not aggressively but respectfully and with occasional comedy to keep the mood light in dark moments.
Look with your own eyes at what I posted and ask yourself, for example, where did I compare Republicans to the Jewish people in the Holocaust? I did not. Ask yourself why they called me a racist, was there any merit behind this or a story whatsoever? No. Look why I was called transphobic: for making Star Wars droid noises? “Beep, bop, boop” was obviously aimed at online bullies and in no way denigrated transgender people.
Were my questions about masks, lockdowns and forced vaccines suitable to ask and bring the topic to light? Should we have been allowed to discuss these topics publicly at that time without being harassed or censored? Absolutely.
Hollywood says it supports female representation and equal rights. Why then were my male co-stars allowed to speak without harassment and re-education classes or dismissal, but I was not afforded the same right to exercise my freedom of speech?
Artists do not give up our rights as American citizens when we enter the workforce. I’ve spoken to all my co-stars since I was fired and there is nothing but love and kind words between us. I respect their right to free speech and I don’t have to think the same way about every issue to be their friend and work with them and I know they feel the same about me.
A couple of months ago @ElonMusk tweeted that if you were fired for using platform (X) for exercising your right to free speech, he would like to offer these people legal representation. A noble offer indeed, but never in my wildest dreams did I think anyone would take my case against Lucasfilm/Disney. However, I replied “I think I qualify” and thousands of people agreed, but I didn’t expect anything.
To my surprise, a few months ago I received an email from an attorney who had been hired by X to look into my story and many others. Turns out, after sending them all the information I have been able to gather over the last few months, my current lawyers and X wholeheartedly believe in my case and are moving forward.
I would like to express my deepest gratitude and thanks to @ElonMusk and @X for giving me the opportunity to bring my case to light.
For me, I’d like to pick up where I left off and continue my journey of creating and participating in storytelling, which is my utmost passion and everything I’ve worked so hard for. It has been difficult to move forward with the lies and labels attached to me, supported and encouraged by the most powerful entertainment company in the world. I am grateful that someone came to my defense in such a powerful way and I look forward to clearing my name.
Thanks to all the people who supported me and made your voice heard. I pray that God will bless each of you.
With love,
Gina Carano
