Matthew Vaughn says a SUPERMAN: RED SON movie with Henry Cavill would be interesting

Matthew Vaughn seems to really want to get in on some DC Studios action. After saying that he would like to direct Supergirl: the woman of tomorrow with Milly Alcockthe director now has a proposal for an adaptation of Superman: Red Son with Henry Cavill as the protagonist.

During a recent interview with BroBible, Vaughn shared his thoughts, saying, “I thought Red Son was one of the smartest comics I’d ever read, and in the current world we live in, it’s certainly become much more relevant because ignorance it causes more problems, and I think the more we learn about Russia and Russian history… Wow, you could imagine a remake Red Son with Henry Cavill? It would be an interesting film.”

It would be interesting, but I seriously doubt Warner Bros. or DC Studios will ever do it. There are already several Superman projects in development.

When rumors of a Red Son movie began to spread in 2020, former WB studio head Walter Hamada disputed the rumors, but praised the book and said an adaptation would not be ruled out in the future.

Hamada said at the time: “I think the possibility is there. Our focus is big stories, so if we meet the right director with an interesting story, that won’t work in our existing timeline, and it would work like an Elseworld.”, we will definitely explore it. We’re not currently developing Red Son, so it’s not one of them, but when the right director or the right idea comes together, that’s the beauty of [a] multiverse, if we can explore it. We can go ahead and try… The answer is yes, there will be opportunities. This is not what we are currently exploring.”

If they ever make a Red Son movie, I’d love to see Cavill cast. But, again, that will probably never happen.

Superman: Red Son was written by Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar, centering on a Superman whose rocket crashed in Soviet Russia instead of Kansas.
