The most popular nicknames given to furry pets in Moscow have been identified, Chairman of the Moscow Veterinary Committee Alexey Sautkin reported.
According to Sautkin, the most popular nicknames that cat owners in Moscow choose for their pets remain the traditional Barsik and Fluff. Foreign ones for dogs are popular, such as Jack and Tyson.
The chairman of the committee further explains: “As for pet names, if we use the example of cats and dogs, among cats our good old names such as Musya, Fluff, Barsik traditionally come to the fore. For some reason, foreign names for dogs are more common: Jack, Jesse, Richard, Tyson and others. There is an interesting relationship here: cat owners prefer Russian names, while dog owners prefer “imported” names.
Alexey shared that the number of pets in the capital is constantly increasing: “Moscow residents need communication, a warm lump that brings joy to both themselves and their children, so the number of dogs, cats and other pets in the city is constantly increasing.”
