DON’T TELL MOM ABOUT THE BABYSITTER’S DEATH The remake will be rated R

The classic dark comedy from 1991 Don’t tell mom the babysitter died is getting a remake, and when it was first announced it was described as a “diverse remake” of the ’90s film and that it would be a “modern-day retelling centered on a black family.”

Last we heard Bille Woodruff (Beauty shop, Yellowjackets) was to direct the film from a script written by Chuck Hayward (Dear white people, WandaVision). It was also reported that the new film will be “as funny and outrageous as the original but also smart and connected to today’s world.”

In the most recent update on the remake, an official listing from the MPA revealed that the upcoming film will be rated R. The original film was rated PG-13, but this new film received the “R” rating for ” adolescent drug use, language and some sexual references.

The film also has a distributor with Iconic Releasing, but does not yet have a release date. Tyra Banks (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Ugly coyote, America’s next top model, dancing with the Stars) has been cast in the film and will play the character of Boss Rose, a fashion executive at General Apparel West, who takes a chance on her older sister, hiring her as an executive assistant.

The original 1991 film followed four brothers whose mother had gone on holiday abroad, leaving them with a very strict and very elderly babysitter, despite the older sister having just graduated from high school. But then the babysitter dies, and the kids have to figure out what to do to survive and not tell their mom that the babysitter is dead.

It will be interesting to see how this remake turns out.
