Director SJ Clarkson is preparing for the debut of his latest film, Mrs. Web, but that’s not his only work with Marvel. You previously worked on Netflix shows Jessica Jones AND The defendersand claims to have identified similarities between the two projects, Jessica Jones and Madame Web, both in the tone of the stories and between the two main characters, Jones (Kristen Ritter) and Cassandra Webb (Dakota Johnson).
In a recent interview with Total Film, he said Mrs. Web it has a “rooted” and “gritty” tone. Clarkson describes Jones and Madame Web’s protagonist, Cassandra Web, as “loner”. Not only that, but they’re both “a little abrasive, a little bizarre and on the fringes of things.”
“With JJ he had PTSD. That [sense of] the reality was its success in a sense. I suppose it’s the same with Mrs. Web,” she explained.
The film’s synopsis reads:
“Departing from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the origin story of one of Marvel publishing’s most enigmatic heroines. The suspenseful thriller takes center stage Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a Manhattan paramedic who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to face revelations about her past, she forms relationships with three young women destined for a powerful future… if they can all survive a deadly present.
Mrs. Web even stars Emma Roberts, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps (The Upshaws), AND Adam Scott (Separation). The film will be released in theaters on February 14.
