Following the announcement of Milly Alcock having been cast as Supergirl in the DCU, we have some new details to share with you about the writer and director James Gunnto choose the actress and some details of the story Supergirl: the woman of tomorrow.
Gunn took to social media today to say: “In case you missed this exciting news yesterday. Oddly enough, Milly was the FIRST person I approached Peter (Safran) for this role, well over a year ago when I had only read the comics. I was watching House of the Dragon and thought she might have the edge and the grace and authenticity that we needed for the DCU’s Supergirl. And now here we are. Life is wild sometimes.
It’s pretty interesting that Gunn ended up casting the first person he thought of for the role of Supergirl. In a report from Variety, further insights into Gunn were offered Supergirl: the woman of tomorrow said:
They explain: “Ultimately, Gunn was looking to move away from previous depictions of the Girl of Steel, particularly the long-running CBS/CW series fronted by Melissa Benoist, and is aiming for a less serious, edgier version of the iconic superheroine. . In the new iteration, Supergirl travels across the galaxy to celebrate her 21st birthday with Krypto the Superdog. Along the way she meets a young woman named Ruthye and she finds herself on a murderous quest for revenge.
The story details shared are from the DC comic Supergirl: the woman of tomorrowof the writer Tom King. In that story: “Kara Zor-El has seen some epic adventures over the years, but now finds his life without meaning or purpose. Here she is, a young woman who saw her planet destroyed and was sent to Earth to protect a little cousin who ended up no longer needing her. What was it all for? Everywhere she goes, people only see her through the lens of Superman’s fame. Just when Supergirl thinks she’s had enough, everything changes. An alien girl seeks her out for a ferocious mission. Her world has been destroyed and the bad guys responsible are still out there. She wants revenge and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she will do it herself, no matter what it costs her. Now a Kryptonian, a dog and an angry, heartbroken child set off into space on a journey that will shake them to the core.”
