A new image has been shared for the new Netflix animated series The unique piece. The series was announced a few weeks ago, but we’ve now learned that the project has actually been in development for longer than expected. In a quarterly financial report, Wit Studio showed that they are working on it The unique piece as early as September 2023.
The One Piece production committee, made up of representatives from Shueisha, Fuji Television Network and Toei Animation Co., says The One Piece “will be distinct from the TV anime series”, creating “a fresh yet familiar experience, using cuts visual technology cutting edge to reimagine Luffy’s adventures across the beloved East Blue saga.”
One Piece is set in a fantasy world and follows the fantastic adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew as they explore exotic islands and endless oceans in search of the ultimate “One Piece” treasure to become the next pirate king. A release date has not yet been set for this project.
The series is inspired by Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga and will be different from the current anime series. One of the biggest differences we’ve seen so far is the visual style, but I’m mostly curious to see how the story will be handled.
Do you think Wit can live up to the original Toei Animation series? Or even Netflix’s live-action series?
