Last week it was revealed that the Ghostbusters character is Janine Melnitz, played by the wonderful Annie Pottsshe would finally adapt to the next movie and help capture some ghosts together with her old friends, Bill MurrayIt’s Peter Venkman, Dan Aykroydit’s Ray Stantz, and Ernie HudsonIt’s Winston Zeddemore. Janine has always played the role of the receptionist who keeps everything under control and gives that important command to put things into action: “We got one!” But now she’ll see a little more action.
In an interview in the latest edition of Empire magazine, Potts spoke about this new development for Janine, saying that she was included because of the dire situation we will find our characters in in the sequel:
“It’s a desperate situation, so everything is fine. It turns out that Janine is quite capable, as most women tend to be when given the chance. It was a real surprise. We had been filming for weeks and Gil [Kenan, director] he came to me and said, ‘We think it’s time… we’ll get you dressed.’”
Once I put the suit on, it looked perfect.
“I have to say, I did [get a kick out of it]. Janine served long and well, and I felt like she was finally getting her stripes, you know? She clearly stayed in touch with the kids [between Ghostbusters II and Frozen Empire], and she was actually the keeper of the flame at the fire station. The Ghostbusters are kind of like superheroes, so it’s really nice to finally be seen that way too.”
Janine also gets a new Ghostbusters kit, though Potts is staying mum for now on what exactly she’s equipped with. “It’s… not a proton pack,” she quips. “Thank God I didn’t have to put on a backpack, because they’re deathly heavy, and us OGs are getting along pretty well.”
I think it’s great that Janine is catching ghosts with the best of them! She’s an amazing character and I love that she gets her time to shine.
