Mattel launched its annual “Career of the Year” collection, and for 2024 that collection will be “Women in Film” and will feature Barbie dolls representing women working in a variety of film jobs.
The collection will include four dolls and the film professions represented include studio executive, director, cinematographer and, of course, movie star. The Women in Film dolls join the more than 250 “professional” Barbie dolls released by Mattel. Last year, Barbie’s career collection involved Women in Sports and featured a general manager, a coach, a referee and a sportscaster.
Mattel explained that this collection was inspired by the success of Greta Gerwig’s film Barbie, saying: “There couldn’t be a more appropriate time to honor women in film and highlight the limitless possibilities available to girls in the entertainment industry “.
As a movie fan and father of three daughters who grew up with Barbie dolls, this is pretty awesome!
