Sony recently offered an update on the TV series adaptations of their hit game franchises God of war AND Dawn of Horizon Zero. During the Consumer Electronics Show, Sony revealed that the shows entered development earlier this year and are in the midst of writing.
God of war is set to Prime Video and they ordered a first season in December with Rafe Judkins (The Wheel of Time) attached as showrunner. Dawn of Horizon Zero is installed on Netflix and is developed by Steve Blackman of The Umbrella Academy.
God of war follows Kratos, the god of war, who, “after exile from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece, hangs up his weapons forever in the Norse kingdom of Midgard. When his beloved wife dies, Kratos embarks on a perilous journey with his estranged son to scatter her ashes from the highest peak: his wife’s dying wish. Kratos quickly realizes that the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one that will test the bonds between father and son and force Kratos to battle new gods and monsters for the fate of the world.
Vernon Sandershead of global television at Amazon Studios previously spoke about what the series is doing and said the studio is always looking for things that have an “emotional core” and a “real narrative story” which is what makes God of War “special”. ”
He went on to share some new details about the story and praised it, saying, “At the heart of it all is this story of fathers, sons and families, set in this giant epic landscape. So what Rafe [Judkins] and Marco [Fergus] and Hawk [Ostby] that we came up with for the first season, and for the series, I think, is incredibly faithful to the source material, and also compelling in its own right. If you’ve never played the game, you’ll fall in love with the show and feel truly invited. So we think it’s going to be great.”
Dawn of Horizon Zero follows Aloy, a courageous young hunter in a primitive tribal world where strange, monstrous, animalistic machines roam the desert. She finds herself searching for the truth about her mysterious origin and the state of the world.
There are no details on the series or whether it will follow the game’s story or tell a story that expands into the game.
I’m excited about these two shows and hope that their respective creative teams end up making amazing shows!
