Vincenzo D’Onofrio makes his big return as Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin in Marvel Echo, which will be released at the end of the month. He’s so good in this role and it will be interesting to see where his arc goes in the MCU. The actor was recently a guest on Jake’s Takes and during that interview he talked about his character and revealed which heroes in the MCU he believes are capable of defeating The Kingpin, and there are only two. He explained:
“That’s a very difficult question, because I don’t see that happening. I don’t see Kingpin dying. Kingpin has never died in comic canon, so it’s very difficult. I’ll talk in terms of who might approach it.
“I think it would have to be Daredevil or Spider-Man… together, the two of them together, maybe. But I don’t see Kingpin leaving. He never did when I was a kid, so I don’t know. I don’t expect him to now. “
It makes sense that it should be Daredevil and Spider-Man, especially with their long history with the villain. Nothing I would love more than for D’Onofrio’s Kingpin to have a long life in the MCU. Rumors are circulating that Kingpin and Daredevil will be part of Spider-Man 4’s story, but this has yet to be confirmed or denied.
In a separate interview with CB, Echo producer Richie Palmer was asked about Kingpin’s potential as a recurring villain in the MCU, and Palmer seemed optimistic about the idea, saying:
“I want to see it. I think stay tuned for how this show ends and where we see it next. As a Kingpin fan myself, it looks great and I know Vincent would love it.”
After Echo, Kingpin will appear again in Daredevil: Born Again. After that, we’ll just have to wait and see! Previously speaking about Daredevil: Born Again, D’Onofrio said:
“I think it’s definitely a new show. It’s not the Netflix show. It’s definitely a new show. I mean, all I can say is that Charlie [Cox] and I’m not bored. We are having a lot of fun. We have a fantastic cast and I think everyone else is having a great time too. Charlie is one of my favorite people, and I know that he comes here every day ready to give it his all and you know how I am, I’m completely into this part, so I’m there for the same reason.
“We’re just delivering. It’s a lot of work. Charlie’s great because he has to do all the stunts and stuff, so he’s constantly training and learning different things. But the scenes are great. I’m trying to shoot around details, but I can only say it’s a different show and it feels like a different show.”
The series is currently going through some big changes with a completely new creative team. But fans are hoping that Marvel delivers a badass show! What would you like to see from Kingpin in the future of the MCU?
Echo will premiere on Disney+ on January 9, while Daredevil: Born Again will be released in 2025 or 2026.
