Margaret Ridley will return to play Rey Skywalker in a new Star Wars film, in a story that will focus on the character ten years after we last saw her in 2019, at the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga. Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. The actress thought that film was her last appearance as her character, but when she was asked to tackle a story directed by the director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) and writer Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), was forced to return.
Now, director Obaid-Chinoy talks about the project and shares her excitement for the next chapter. In an interview with CNN, she said:
“I am very excited about the project because I feel that what we are about to create is something very special. And it’s 2024 now, and it’s about time a woman stepped forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away.
The film will be set over a decade after the events of The Rise of Skywalkerand will focus on Rey as she builds the New Jedi Order.
Star Wars: New Jedi Order is currently in pre-production and will hit theaters in 2027.
