The merger of Blumhouse and Atomic Monster is now complete

Jason Blum’s Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster, the two leading horror production companies, have completed their long-awaited merger, Blum announced Tuesday.

“Our agreement is…. Finish. @blumhouse and #AtomicMonster have officially joined forces,” the producer wrote on X in a post accompanied by a scroll showing off both companies’ libraries. “The leading houses in horror are now under one roof.”

The merger news comes just before the release of Night swimming, the supernatural horror film that marks Bryce McGuire’s directorial debut and was produced by both companies. The film, starring Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon, will be released in theaters on January 5 via Universal Pictures. They already collaborated on last year’s horror hit M3GANThe companies were initially reported to be in advanced talks about a merger in November 2022.

Through the merger, the companies will continue to operate as separate labels, each retaining its own creative autonomy and brand identity. The alliance is expected to scale its joint production, with Atomic Monster using Blumhouse’s existing infrastructure to expand its operations into film, television and new content areas such as games, live experiences and audio. Going forward, Atomic Monster will also benefit from the first-look deal with Universal Pictures that Blumhouse currently has, having already secured its own deal with Warner Bros.

Blumhouse is known cinematically for horror franchises such as Paranormal activity, The raid, Halloween, The exorcist And The black phone, among many others. Atomic Monster is now known for its work on film series The incantation, Treacherous And Saw. Together, the companies have generated more than $11.6 billion worldwide since 2004, with horror projects accounting for the bulk of that. As a director, Wan ranks as the highest-grossing DC film of all time Aquariuswhich he followed with the recently released Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The latter has grossed over $255 million worldwide as of December 22.
