Billie Lourd took to social media to post a touching tribute to her late mother, Carrie Fisher, on the seventh anniversary of his passing. Fisher, known to the world as our Princess Leia, suddenly passed away in the midst of making the final trilogy of Skywalker films. She had completed filming Episode VIIIand footage from that film and the previous one was used to complete the story arc in the ninth and final film of the series.
It was a devastating loss for fans everywhere, and no one felt it more deeply than his daughter.
In the Instagram post, Lourd grieved her mother, saying:
It’s been 7 years since my mother died (but who’s counting?? I guess?) Each anniversary brings a different iteration of my grief. Some make me feel angry, some make me cry all day, some make me feel dissociated and empty, some make me feel nothing, some make me feel guilty for feeling nothing, and some make me feel all of these things at once. This year, when I woke up, I felt grateful – or ✨grieved✨ if you prefer. Grief has infused my life with a sense of appreciation that I never had before. It makes me soak up every moment of joy as if it were my last. Today I held my daughter as she napped in my arms and my eyes filled with tears of joy. I laughed at myself and then cried more because I was laughing. I felt my mom’s presence like the warmth of the sun on her skin on a hot summer day. The kind of warmth where you unconsciously close your eyes, take a slow breath through your nose, and smile. I miss her every day, but the cliché is also true: she is with me every day, she infuses my joyful moments with even more joy. As I tell my son, she lives among the stars and definitely makes my life shine. I send my love to all those suffering out there. And I hope everyone can feel a little spark of pain among all the feelings that pain inevitably brings. ❤️
The only silver lining in someone’s death is the collective grief we feel together on their behalf. It is the honor we give them and the gathering to remember them that gives us hope in the darkest times.
