Amazon and MGM Studios have acquired the rights to a new spy thriller film project titled The best of enemiesAND Bradley Cooper AND Cristiano Balla they are officially ready to act. Eric Warren Singer is writing the screenplay and Carlo Rovere is producing. The entire creative team has already worked together on The American hustle.
There is also the possibility that Cooper, who recently directed the film Master, will direct the film, but this has not yet been confirmed. The project was sold to MGM and Amazon after a major bidding war and they paid seven figures for the writer and producer. The film will have a theatrical release.
The film is based on the book The Best of Enemies: The Last Great Cold War Espionage Story Of Eric Dezenhall and Gus Russo. The best of enemies tells the story of “CIA agent Jack Platt and KGB agent Gennady Vasilenko, a pair of Cold War spies who developed an unlikely friendship at a time when they should have been anything but. Platt and Vasilenko were newcomers to the Washington D.C. intelligence scene in 1978, with the former working at the CIA’s counterintelligence office and the latter at the Soviet embassy. Remarkably, they came to establish strong personal bonds, even after each was sent to seduce the other into betraying their country.”

Cooper will take over the role of Platt, with Bale playing Vasilenko.
