Elvis director Baz Luhrmann he’s not done with the King of Rock and Roll yet. The director recently revealed that he now wants to make a TV series about Elvis and explained that it will be completely different from the film he made. During an interview with CinemaBlend, Luhrmann revealed:
“I would really like to do the episodic version of Elvis. And I will adopt a completely different style of storytelling than I would have chosen if I had done it for the cinema.”
Elvis it was a great movie and Austin Butler he was fantastic as Elvis. After making such a great film, why would Luhrmann want to transform this story into a different format? The director explained:
“Now, okay, why would I be so stupid? Well, like when an iconic, popular musician makes a song and performs it in concert and they do it, you know, let’s say it’s a dance song, they do a heavy metal version of it. I think about the dexterity of music and the ability to take the same piece, reinterpret it and rediscover it. It keeps the artist busy. But he also continues to decode and recode history, [and] it keeps him alive in the moment. That’s why I would do it. And I think I would do it with Elvis.”
If Luhrmann is passionate about this project, he will keep it going until it gets made. This is a series that could very well appear on Max one day. I would definitely be interested to see what Luhrmann would do with an Elvis TV series! And you?
