Many people are expecting Disney’s live-action remake Snow White be a complete disaster. The film’s star has said some things in the past that have angered Disney fans. Then there’s the ridiculous aspect of the film where the seven dwarfs are CGI and look terrible.
During a recent discussion on “Actors on Actors,” Zegler talked about which director Marc Webb and the creative team hope to achieve this with the film, stating:
“This is an iconic thing that people really care about. I don’t want to ruin this for anyone, including myself. The writers, Marc Webb and our entire producing team… it’s a little bit of a different story. We managed to do “Whistle While You Work,” which made me really happy and excited. I was really nervous more about the technical element. The first-look image came out… and there’s a lot of CGI in the film.”
The first image that was released did not receive much positive response. One thing that has been confirmed is that they took this “iconic thing” and turned the story into something completely different. Zegler previously said that Snow White will not be “saved by a prince,” who she calls a “stalker.” David Hand, whose father co-directed Walt Disney’s original 1937 film, finds the remake “offensive” and said his father and Walt Disney would be “turning in their graves”.
The actress went on to talk about the film’s CGI elements and working with dwarf characters who don’t exist:
“Most of the day was spent singing in silence. I’m sure you know how it can be too. There was a lot of puppetry and CGI in post. It was really intense. There are a lot of mistakes where I throw a broom and let it fall to the ground because apparently that’s how you throw things at CGI characters. But it’s so much fun!”
Disney spent a lot of money making this film and it is said that the studio would need to gross at least $340 million to break even.
The story follows a princess who is rescued by seven dwarf miners, Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy and Sneezy, who make Snow White part of their family after she is exiled to a dangerous forest by her evil stepmother, played by Gal Gadot.
Snow White will be released in theaters on March 21, 2025.
